Alva was the very first pattern I created for Sewsome. I wanted to design a dress that would work well in a child’s everyday life throughout the year. At the same time, it needed to be beautiful, comfortable, and practical. I think Alva combines all of those qualities rather nicely.
The Alva pattern is available in sizes 74–140 cm and is designed for knit fabrics. I recommend cotton jersey with elastane, but bamboo jersey and viscose jersey work beautifully as well. These fabrics give the dress a softer, more fluid drape.
Alva has a regular fit, while the gently flared hem creates a relaxed and comfortable silhouette. The pattern includes both short and long sleeves, allowing you to create a summer dress or a cosy dress for cooler days using the same pattern.
The hem has just the right amount of fullness to twirl beautifully (just as my daughter thinks every dress should), while still being practical enough to wear comfortably under overalls.
This pattern is also a great choice for beginners. The detailed, photo-based sewing instructions will guide you through every step, even if garment sewing is still new to you.
I hope Alva finds a place in many children’s wardrobes and gets to join them in everyday adventures as well as more special occasions.
